We started growing our own produce as soon as we moved to the farm. Of course, when you have so much space, why wouldn’t you want to have as much garden fresh food as possible? However we quickly grew more than we could consume and so the next year, had a neighbour plow up a field next to the house and started growing in earnest. We chose to sell our goods at the Perth Farmers’ Market because it was nearby and we liked the “local only” aspect. Over the years we have expanded our range of vegetable items to include exotic ones such as bok choy, chinese greens, kholrabi, ground cherry and chicory, but we mostly grow those that are the staple of peoples’ diets : potatoes, tomatoes, beans and peas, beets, carrots, greens and onions in interesting varieties and colours. Our produce is grown using organic methods and non-pesticide bug control (generally hand picking and squishing!) and we use our sheep manure for fertility. It is available Saturdays 8-1pm at the Perth Farmers’ Market from May - October . It can also be found in-season by shopping at the online market place for the Two Rivers Food Hub distributing throughout Lanark, Leeds and Grenville.
